THE ACCIDENTAL COUNSELLOR TRAINING

For Anyone Not Trained As A Counsellor But Often Find Themselves in Counselling Situations By Accident.

As an Accidental Counsellor you are not a qualified Counsellor and you don’t do therapy. However, regardless of title or qualification you are an Accidental Counsellor.

Accidental Counsellors are people who find they are placed in a counselling/mentoring/coaching role by accident, as a result of requests for help from friends, colleagues, clients or others.

THE ACCIDENTAL COUNSELLOR TRAINING will focus on 3 core themes:

  • Wellbeing
  • Connection
  • Influence

WELLBEING

As an Accidental Counsellor a focus on your wellbeing and self care is essential to avoid burnout.

A focus on your wellbeing and self-care allows you to connect to the stories of pain and suffering you hear from the people you support.

CONNECT

We connect to people’s stories of pain and suffering by listening and acknowledging and validity what their experience.

It’s with this deep connection that safety and trust increases and the person begins to calm down. Then if appropriate you can ask questions to help the person discover their “next best step”.

INFLUENCE

Using practical “Solution Focused” questions and language patterns means you are not giving advice but more facilitating and empowering the person to take their next best step.

AREAS COVERED IN THE ACCIDENTAL COUNSELLOR TRAINING INCLUDE

– Evidence based Wellbeing strategies from the field of Positive Psychology

– Connection processes including reflective listening and the Perception Process

– How to influence using Solution Focused Communication

– and much more!

The Accidental Counsellor Training live event has been conducted all over Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia to over 10,000 people!

Created by Rocky Biasi in 2008 receiving stellar reviews from all in attendance. Book your spot now to ensure you don’t miss out.

All Work No Play Online Session

All Work No Play Online Session
A New 3 hour FUN session to boost wellbeing and prevent burnout with Dale Sidebottom.

In this action-packed fun session you will find more moments of joy and happiness daily using evidence based fun strategies and activities.

You’ve heard of mindfulness. In this session we introduce PLAY as a simple way to be present in the moment. When you are truly present, stress and worry melts away, making you more mindful and connected. We all know this is good for us, but when was the last time you actually played?

Packed full of games, exercises, and fully backed by science, All Work No Play shows how to use play-based mindfulness to build healthy relationships, improve your mental health, and live a better life.

Inside this session, Dale introduces you to the Daily PEGG, a framework consisting of Play, Exercise, Gratitude and Giving that will ground your mindset and have a profound impact on your life and the lives of those around you. These tools can be used by anyone, as an individual goal, as a family challenge, or to connect teams and workplaces.

No matter where you are in life, All Work No Play is your guide to bringing more fun and fulfilment into your day.

If you’re an Accidental Counsellor supporting the wellbeing of others it’s important to look after yourself. Learning fun, simple, practical ways to enhance your wellbeing will help prevent burnout.

Fredrickson and Banigan (2005) discovered positive emotions increased attention, whereas negative emotions reduced thought processes. These findings reveal the importance of a positive mood in creativity, problem-solving, engagement and actions.

Who’s the workshop for?

The session is for anyone and everyone who is looking for fun ways to enhance wellbeing and prevent burnout for themselves and the people they work and support

The session will look at:

*NEW* The Accidental Counsellor 3-Hour Session (Online)
Sep 27 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
A Solutions Focused Approach to listening and responding to emotional distress without burning out.

Who is this for?

This session is for anyone and everyone who responds to emotional upset and distress. That’s most of us, right?

If you’re a teacher, parent, community service worker, anyone really who wants to learn how to listen and respond to emotional upset without being overwhelmed. This is for you!

Why is this important?

One story comes to mind that illustrates the importance of this session. A young lady I was seeing for counselling recounted how she couldn’t speak about her loss and grief, not even to her mother and sister who she loved and knew they loved her.

When I asked why she couldn’t speak to her family she told me that they “find it too hard”. She explained that every time she started speaking about her pain and distress the responses were, “Don’t be upset”, “Everything will be okay”, “Give it time”, and more.

Unfortunately, most people believe that being “positive” and “hopeful” in these situations is what’s needed. It comes mostly from a good place to help the person who is upset feel better. The result is usually the opposite. We all want to be heard and understood. We all want to have our feelings validated and acknowledged.

As you can gather this will be a key aspect of the training but there will be more!

What will you learn?

The training covers 3 core areas:

1) Self Care and Wellbeing so you can manage the toll listening to stories of emotional distress can have on us. This also includes appropriate referral.

• Mental Health and Wellbeing strategies.

• Referral and boundaries framework.

2) Connection so we are able to validate and acknowledge the person so they feel heard and understood.

• Reflective listening

• Brain based communication

3) Influence so we can ask appropriate “solution focused questions” if appropriate rather than giving unsolicited advice.

• Setting the agenda questions

• Scaling questions

How does it work?

The Accidental Counsellor is a full day program however we’ve created shorter versions for those who have time constraints and prefer an introductory session.
